HomeBeautySpray Tan or Self-Tanner, Which is Better?

Spray Tan or Self-Tanner, Which is Better?

To be a golden goddess, wouldn’t that be nice? We see our favorite celebrities, socialites, and friends with a beautiful bronze tan, yet immaculate skin. How do they do it?

Sunless tanning has grown in popularity beyond what anyone could have anticipated. There are so many self-tanners on the market, spray tan salons (some even mobile!). It’s no wonder people are still keeping their tan year-round without damaging their dewy skin. Especially with safety precautions in place, people aren’t going outdoors to soak up the vitamin D and benefit from the color. This gives the sunless tanning market a huge advantage. But which way to go? Spray tan, or self-tanner.

IF, and I mean only IF you can spray tan safely, this can be an option. For anyone though, you can order self-tanner and 1, 2, 3, it at home. And there are tons of tons of products for this.

So, for now, we won’t tell you if one is better than the other. For the foreseeable future, it’s best to stay home and be as safe as possible, so we are going to give you our list of favorited self-tanners.

  1. Blue Saint Instant Self-Tanner – $39

You may have seen this brand mentioned on Organic Beauty Report before, which is why we have it on our list. We cannot get over the fact that this product actually does what it says, and that is adhering to its “zero-orange guarantee.”

This foamy dream is applied with an included mitt and it is packed with probiotics so you are nourishing your skin as your sunless tan develops. We love that a 20-year-old ingenue developed it based on her love of organic products and being tan. A significant benefit is that it’s a buildable tan, so you can apply layers and watch them develop until you reach the degree of bronze you are looking for.

The line also has a special Face Drop formula, which can be mixed with moisturizer or foundation. The body foam is only $39 and the face drops are only $29. You’re going to love this brand because it doesn’t have that awful self-tanner odor, won’t streak, and dries quickly. No stained sheets or clothes with Blue Saint!

  1. Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam – $34.90

This pigmentation blurring formula also combats cellulite and works as an anti-aging agent. But let’s talk about the smell first – mango and guava scent, yes, please!

You legit feel like you are on a tropical island when you smell it, and when you see the true honey results. All you need is a pina colada! This lightweight, the non-sticky formula will have you so obsessed with your own skin, you may not want to leave the full-body mirror. The tan you achieve is straight ridiculous(ly good). It comes with a fun hot pink mitt and a kabuki brush! Who doesn’t love a good kabuki brush!? Virgin coconuts, fig, cocoa, mandarin – this blend is straight heavenly. Lotus flower, banana, papaya, should I keep going?

This self-tanner goes above and beyond and gives you ultimate hydration and the most natural-looking tan. The total kit is $74 (which we recommend!) and it is much more than a self-tanner – it’s a new way of living.

  1. Bali Body Self-Tanning Mousse $29.95

Fast-drying and lightweight, this tinted mousse contains chamomile extract for ultimate soothing and coffee seed extract for antioxidant properties, and pomegranate extract for a bright glow and serious hydration. Natural, streak-free, and 100 percent vegan, you will look like you just stepped foot off the jet from Bali.

The mousse applies effortlessly and you won’t feel sticky. Just one layer goes a long way so you don’t need to keep reapplying to achieve the bronze you desire. It doesn’t come off as easy as other self-tanners which can be good or bad depending on your level of commitment. It’s available for $29.95 at Ulta, so it’s competitively priced.

  1. SOL By Jergens Sunless Tanning Medium Water Mousse – $16.99

Jergens has been perfecting its self-tanner game for ages and this Sol Sunless Tanning formula continues to achieve five-star reviews across the board. Natural sugars activate and give you a dose of gold without having to go outdoors.

This water-based self-tanner works with your unique skin tone so it never looks fake or orange-y. It’s also infused with coconut water and passion fruit extract so it smells super delicious too! It comes in two shades, medium or deep, although medium will definitely give your skin a pretty tan boost.

Reviewers claim they get through the bottle pretty fast, so you may want to buy in bulk! It acts as a lotion of sorts too, so your skin won’t feel dried out or rough. Although it’s a drugstore brand, it does come at a higher price than most of its competitors on the shelves, so don’t be too appalled at the $16.99 price tag. It’s worth it!

  1. Adonia Organics Self-Tanning Foam – $49

With 12 Greek botanical oils, you can be bronzed all year long! The moisturizing ingredients and probiotics work together for a quick result that won’t look like it came from a bottle. This line is known for its organic products and this potion doesn’t have that icky self-tanner odor that we know so well from early self-tanning products.

The color starts developing instantly and continues to deepen in six hours. It’s not transferable so it won’t gunk up your clothing. You can apply it twice per day for optimal sun-kissed luminosity. It comes with a silky foam mitt for even application that feels so soft on your skin.

This product is priced at $49 due to all the essential oil ingredients sourced from Greece, such as organic bergamot, organic tangerine and organic geranium.

Conclusion:

If you’re feeling the blues from being stuck inside, opt for bronze instead! One of these self-tanners will give you a healthy hue and you won’t even have to harm your skin with harmful UV rays.
